Human stories. Real people. Cinematic filmmaking.
ABOUT CALUM
Hiya, how are we?
I'm Calum, a freelance documentary filmmaker, director and self-shooting DP based in Manchester, creating human-led films for brands, agencies and organisations across the UK. My work sits between documentary storytelling, branded content and short-form narrative, with a focus on real people, honest stories and cinematic visuals.
With over 10 years of experience across production, directing and cinematography, I bring a considered, hands-on approach to every project. From developing the story and shaping the creative, through to filming, directing and post-production. Whether working on a branded documentary, campaign film or short-form narrative piece, my aim is always the same: to make films that feel authentic, look beautiful and leave an impression.
BACKGROUND
Born and bred in Oldham, my love for filmmaking started early, making videos of me and my mates messing about while we were in a band, long before university. I later moved to Liverpool to study, cutting my teeth at the student radio station. After graduating, I returned home to work in radio at Key 103 and BBC 5 Live, where I began creating online video content around different shows and quickly realised film was my focus.
After a brief stint at Social Chain in Manchester, I moved fully into video production. Since then, I’ve honed my craft and led projects for clients including MTV, Weber and Nike, filming everywhere from Wembley Stadium to Gary Lineker’s house.
Today, I work as a self-shooting DP and Director, bringing together strong visual storytelling, documentary filmmaking and a hands-on approach to production. I'm drawn to real people, interesting stories and films that feel honest, cinematic and human.
